Testing for fabrication and welding workshops
In a fabrication shop the welders are the equipment that matters most, and they need more than a general appliance test.
We test mains-powered welding power sources, and the grinders, leads and plasma cutters around them, in one visit planned around your fabrication work.

Fabrication equipment we test
Welding equipment and the plug-in gear around it:
- Mains-powered single-phase and three-phase welding power sources
- MIG, TIG, stick (MMA) and multi-process welders
- VRDs, where fitted and applicable
- Welding leads, torches and earth clamps
- Plasma cutters
- Grinders, drills and saws
- Extension leads and power boards
- Workshop extraction equipment
AS 60974.4:2025 does not cover engine-driven welding power sources. If you run engine-driven welders, ask us and we will confirm what testing approach applies before booking.

Testing around fabrication work
Each welder is disconnected while it is tested, so we work machine by machine and can start with the bays that are free.
Tell us the makes and models, how many welders you run, their power connections and your shift times. After-hours testing is available by arrangement.
Plan testing around your fabrication workWelding equipment and workplace safety
WorkSafe WA's welding code of practice covers electrical risks alongside fumes, fire and other welding hazards. Welding machines need to be properly maintained, repaired and tested.
A general test and tag does not necessarily cover all the checks required for a welding power source, which is why welders are tested to their own standard. Testing your equipment does not cover fixed wiring or every other safety obligation in the workshop.

Welding equipment records
Each welder is recorded with its test result, its VRD status and its next test date in a barcoded report. Your other tested equipment goes on the same asset report.
Use the records to track your machines and to show what was tested when a site or safety review asks.

Onsite across the South West
Based in the Harvey Shire, we provide onsite services from Waroona to Dunsborough and inland to Collie, including Harvey, Bunbury, Australind, Busselton and Collie.
Welder testing beyond the South West, including Perth, is available by arrangement. Tell us your site address and we will confirm availability and travel.
Questions from fabrication and welding workshops
Not every welder or welding mode uses one. Check the manufacturer's instructions for your machine. Where a VRD is fitted and applicable, we check that it operates correctly.

No. Welders are tested to AS 60974.4:2025, which includes checks that a general appliance test does not necessarily cover. Your other plug-in equipment can be tested on the same visit.
The make, model and number of welders, their power connections, your site location and any access requirements. Photos of the machines and plugs also help.
A barcoded report recording each machine's test result, VRD status and next test date.
